Trims & Mouldings

Various trims and mouldings are required in order to complete the installation of your new wood floor to a professional standard. Below is outlined the correct trim to use. To join up to other floor finishes.
All trims are produced in solid wood and pre finished available in most species to match your floor.

Edge Moulding / Square nose
This trim is used in doorways to join up to a room that has carpet or ceramic tiles in it. It is also used at an external door threshold where there is no room for quadrant to be fitted. Also fitted around a fireplace hearth. Or mat well at an external door.

“T” Moulding
This trim is used to cover the transition in doorways between two wood floors in adjoining rooms.

Reducer Trim
Used for a neat transition down to lower floor coverings. Ie. Vinyl or thin carpet etc. Can also be used in doorways up to carpet or ceramic tiles where a square nose trim leaves a protruding lip. In this situation the front edge of the reducer can be planed of to suit the height of the abutting floor finish.

Stair Nosing
Produces a new nosing on steps and stairs. Covering the transition between floor/stair tread to stair/step riser.

Quadrant
Solid quadrant moulding. Used to cover the expansion gap around the perimeter of the room. When the skirting is not removed. Pinned to the existing skirting board.

Pipe Collars
Used to place around pipes protruding through the floor from radiators or other appliances.

Underlays

There are several types of underlay available on the market for floating floors. We only recommend a few underlays that have been tried and tested. Listed below are our recommendations.
(Moisture content of concrete slabs should always be tested prior to installation of a wood floor)

Tuplex
A 2mm underlay that incorporates a double vapour barrier. Giving a 200mm lap on joints provides some sound deadening. Elevates the need for a separate damp proof membrane under the underlay.

Cellfoam
A 2mm cellfoam underlay -  requires a damp proof membrane over concrete sub floors.

Cush-N-Wood
A 5mm sound reducing roll out underlay mainly used under first floor installations.

Redupax
A rigid board underlay. An Ideal sound reducing under-floor system specifically designed for floating floors. Reduces impact sound and sound transmission. Meets current local authority building regulation requirements. Good thermal insulation. Can level every kind of uneven substrate up to 3mm.
